This is one FUNNY picture

So we're hosting {ART BAR} tonight and Pat shows up, (as always... Pat is one of our faithful attendees) and she brings in this picture from the weekend retreat. Isn't it "HI-LARIOUS"? This is Darla who found a new friend at the retreat. Her new friend is this thingy that you use to get rid of tight spots in your back. Joni brought it to the retreat and now Darla has to have one. You can see by the picture she was very excited by it.

{ART BAR} PROJECT

I'm sorry for being MIA recently. Just busy trying to get new products out and all the other stuff that comes with running a store (like paying the bills for all these new products we've been getting in from CHA.)
Here is a picture of the cute project we are doing at the {ART BAR} tomorrow. Using our scallop coaster die, we've created a fun little accordion book. Come see for yourself...the project is just $5.

Charm Swap

I promised I would post this information regarding the Charm Swap that Gloria is hosting. You can see pictures of the charms she received when she participated in an on-line swap. They are really cute. WHERE; Scrapbook King ‘n’ Stampstruck WHEN: Sign up the week of March 24th, 2008 Charms are due On or before Friday, MAY 2ND, 2008 (this is important). Pick up your new charms on Mon, May 5th, 2008 Creative Escape held in AZ, and sponsored by Bazzill & Heidi Swapp attracts hundreds of scrappers. In 2007, one of the projects getting the most attention was a charm swap sponsored by a group on Yahoo. We thought it would be fun to host a swap here at the store. GUIDELINES: The optimal number of people for the swap is between 25-40. The actual number in our swap will be determined by the number of people who sign up. The theme for this swap is “Swing into Spring”. The colors will be bright green, bright yellow, bright pink, bright blue and white. When you register you will choose or be assigned a color. At the end of the sign-up period, the total number of participants and their colors will be listed on our blog and be available at Scrapbook King. You will then make ?? number of charms (number to be determined by sign-ups) in your color. These charms should be identical or similar and can be made out of beads, tags, clay, bottle caps, ribbon or ??? All we ask is that they be durable. In other words, if they are made out of paper be sure they are modge podged, laminated or preserved in some way. The choice of materials is really up to you. All charms are to be connected to a lobster claw or ribbon long enough that the charm can be double knotted on your charm bracelet, necklace, cell phone or to use as embellishments on cards or scrapbook pages. Please include your color on the charm or ribbon, but any of the other colors can be used as accent colors. Package each charm separately in a little bag. Label each bag with your name and deliver to the store no later than Friday, May 2nd, 2008. I will have all charms divided up and ready for you to pick up by Monday, May 5th. If your charms are not turned in on time, there will be no time for me to distribute them-so, you will receive all your own charms back. If you want to sign up by phone or e-mail, you must still be sure charms are to us by Friday, May 2nd. Included in your package must be a return address label and $4.60 for your charms to be returned by mail. (This is the cost for postage of a small priority mail box.) You can see samples of previously swapped charms and bracelets and necklaces created with them on our blog or come into the store and see an actual necklace. (This swap was loads of fun to participate in and the variety and creativity in the charms I received was truly amazing.) Please join the fun!! We’ll be waiting to hear from you. Gloria

Weekend Retreat

I'm sorry to have been MIA for the last week. We were crazy busy getting ready for the weekend retreat that we held last weekend in Shady Cove. It's a lot of work getting ready, but so worth it. Everyone (including Gloria and I) had so much fun. We had four gals attend from Red Bluff, one from Beaverton, 2 from Yreka and the rest were from right here in the beautiful Rogue Valley. The pages created by these talented ladies ranged in subject matter from bubble baths, family holidays and vacations to just everyday moments and were truly beautiful. The new “Man Size” Cricut Expression got a lot of use and the cartridge Accent Essentials generated a lot of excitement. Did you know you can cut your own 12x12 scalloped edge page with this cartridge and machine? If you are in the market for a new Cricut Expression, you're in luck, we have them in stock. MSRP is $499, but at "The King" you pay just $369. Beware if you are thinking of buying an Expression at one of the big box stores, many of these "discounted" machines do not have the Accent Essential cartridge included. Also in stock for the Cricut is the DesignStudio software and rolls of vinyl. Our library of cartridges continues to grow and we are hoping to start renting the cartridges in just a few weeks.
I'm going to try to post photos of tomorrow's {ART BAR} project a little later today.

Thanks Karen

Karen Russell...You ROCK girl. I'm so glad you came and taught your Interactive Scrapbook Class at the store today. I for one loved the ideas you shared with everyone, your stories, your knowledge, and your enthusiasm. I can't wait to get home and start gathering photos to finish the layouts I started today. Dang, I wish I would have been better prepared and brought them to class with me. I believe that although there weren't a ton of ladies in class, you really brought some wonderful ideas to the table that will truely inspire and change the way that many of these ladies look at scrapbooking and their upcoming projects. I know of couple of them mentioned having big family history projects that they need to do and I think you've given them the reason and inspiration to get started. Thank you again for sharing your time with us. Stacey

More pictures

This is a really cute mini book that was on display at the Karen Foster CHA booth. It showcases the new line of birthday papers and embellishments. Look how cute the pages are inside, they are small chipboard pages that turn individually. I saw several of this style book at the show. We can show you how you can use the Zutter Bind It All to make on of your own. What a Cute idea! You can also see the papers and embellishments used on a 12" x 12" layout. Karen Foster always has new products that are themed. We try to keep a nice selection of both brand name lines as well as themed sections at our store. New products are continuing to arrive. The new Quickutz arrived yesterday along with a big order of AMuse stamps. I'm still working on the class calendar. I'm hoping to have it finished enough to be posted on the website this weekend. The "snail mail" hard copies unfortunately won't arrive in your mailbox until later next week.

Stuff is already starting to arrive! Today we got the BIG BITE CROPADILES in! If you've been waiting to check them out, come in the store soon as I'm sure these won't last long. News from CHA in Anaheim

It's Tuesday, 11:20 at night and my eyes are sleepy, so please excuse any typos and/or poor grammar (even though I'm sure there are plenty of those even on my good days!) It's almost the end of the show and I have some pretty exciting news! DRUM ROLL PLEASE . . . Not just one of our entries for the Creative Cafe contest was a winner, but 3 entries won first place in their Category. Lashell Darby won two of the categories, one for her wonderful scrapbook layout and one for her really fun card, and Donna Jones won the first place in her category with the cute little girls denim skirt she adorned with felt shapes, twill and buttons. Not only did it win the category 1st place prize it also won the GRAND PRIZE, BEST OF THE BEST OF ALL PROJECTS. YEAH! So these talented ladies have won themselves gift certificates for Creative Cafe products (and there is some cool new stuff coming) as well as product from Hampton Art. I believe there will be additional honors of having their projects published. WOO HOO, we'll have more scrapbook celebrities right here in our own home town. Congratulations to both of you wonderfully talented ladies! We appreciate your participation. It was fun for us and we got some really nice thank yous as well for promoting the contest at our store. Creative Imaginations will be making formal announcements soon after the show and I will share more details then. Hope you all have a wonderful night. Check back in later this week to see some pictures from the show (I'd show you a peek now, but I forgot the stinkin' cord for my camera at home, sheesh!) Anyway, I'm excited, just one more sleep until I get to go home and see my boys.

Karen Russell Class

Isn't it amazing to think that we have such a talented and famous scrapbook designer right here in Southern Oregon? For those of you that aren't familiar with Karen Russell, let me give you a brief history. She first came to the scrapbook industry as a CK Hall of Famer. Since then her work has been published in numerous books and magazines. She now designs her own line of products for Creative Imaginations and a line of stamps through Fontwerks. You can visit her blog to see more about her at http://www.karenrussell.typepad.com/ It's been awhile since she's taught here at "The King," so we're pretty excited to have her teach her brand new class; "Interactive Scrapbooking," on March 8th. One of the most exciting things about this class is that she uses some of the really awesome products from Creative Cafe, and the only place you can buy Creative Cafe products in Southern Oregon is right here at our store. I'll include some photos of the projects on this post so that you can see exactly what the projects are like. In class you will create 2 one page layouts that have interactive elements and you will choose the color scheme that you would like to use. The cost of the class is $55, and it include $50 worth of product. We have only 10 spots left, so be sure to come in the store to sign-up and pick up a list of the photo size recommendations for the layouts.

Tim Holtz products

I was just looking at Tim's blog and he has some great instructional videos showing different techniques using some of his great new products. We currently have his distress hammer, a variety of grungeboard and the new fragments in stock. I encourage you to check out his blog, http://www.timholtz.typepad.com/ he is one creative guy (and not bad to look at.) The last couple years at the CHA show I have been lucky enough to watch him demo in person. He's so fun to watch and he really does a great job of explaining every step as he works. Those of you that know Gloria and I, know that we like our dogs. Some of you even helped me name my little dog "Scrappy." Many of you have seen Gloria's new little puppy "Pepe," and so you can understand why we are glad to help and share information about this project Tim is involved in. A Place to Bark is an animal rescue organization that saves dogs from being put down. Tim is giving away one of his favorite art pieces to one lucky winner as a Pay it Forward gesture to anyone that would like to make a donation to A Place to Bark. Be sure to check out his blog for links about this organization and more information on how you can enter his drawing and help this amazing lady continue to do wonderful work for these animals.
